For one or two servings, this works great and fast!5
This is the 2nd of this unit that I have purchased. I seem to be the only rice eater in this family and this unit fits my needs perfectly!

Very little wasted rice in the end (if any) and it's great and fast if you only need to cook one or two servings.

It does make a difference on what type of rice you cook in regards to the amount of water you use. In my case I use soley long grain rice and I almost always use the more expensive BASMATI rice which is much healtier for you.

You can cook the short grain (sticky) rice but it makes a mess on the outside of the unit (makes it sticky) from the steam that comes out of the unit while cooking. Other than that, it works pretty good.

Now for my secret on how to cook ONE SERVING: I use the scoop that comes with it. One scoop of uncooked rice (which is about 3/4 of a cup) wash thoroughly, add 1-1/4 scoop of water (about 1 cup). If you have a power level on your microwave, set it to 7 and cook it for 12-13 min. You may have to experiment with cooking times and power level for your type of microwave.

HINT: If your rice comes out too mushy ... add more time (or reduce the water content), if it comes out stuck together in one big lump .. reduce cooking time (or) add a little more water.

Take it out of the microwave, open the cover(WARNING ..! Gets very hot!), and add some butter (there goes the healthier for you part!) while fluffing up the rice and close the cover for about 2 mins.

That's it, about 15 mins and you have cooked rice!

More than just a rice cooker5
Kk so I didn't buy this from amazon. But I have the exact product and I would like to say this is an efficient rice cooker. Its easy to store and if you don't want to use it as a rice cooker you can use this to make noodles using the microwave and even use this as a bowl itself. Very convenient and makes at least 3-4 cups of rice. Depending on how you like your rice of course.

Love it, love it, love it.
I had this rice cooker for years (all white), and absolutely loved it. It was "accidentally" sold at a moving sale, so I went online to replace it when I settled into my new place. From the picture I wasn't sure if it was the same thing (different color), but thankfully it is! I love the convenience and the rice always comes out perfect. I also cook my quinoa in it and it comes out great.

This versatile multi-cooker from Progressive is great for preparing rice, pasta, and vegetables. The specially designed lid keeps steam circulating, while clamps on the base keep it tightly in place. Rice comes out fluffy and doesn't stick to the bottom of the cooker. The set includes a basket for draining pasta, a pasta measurer, a rack for steaming vegetables, a rice paddle, measuring cups, and measuring spoons. Great for college kids!4
I bought this product almost a yr ago. Its great for cooking in the dorms where your only appliance is a microwave. I couldnt eat the dorm food and this allowed me to cook pasta in my room. I wish i hadnt lost my package insert, that told me the cooking times for everything, so if anyone else goes out and buys this, do us all a favor and post it, eh? I liked that it gave cooking times for steaming veggies, pasta and rice; I LOVED how easy it was to clean. This is a MUST for any one going away to school, and makes a GREAT graduation gift.

There are very few products for which I will give a five star recommendation. This is one of the few. I received this cooker many years ago as a gift and did not use it at first. Let me preface this by saying I am a huge fan of the Japanese sticky rice and it is very difficult to find a device that will cook it well. This little microwave pot does it exactly right. I have steamed vegetables in it, cooked pasta, and of course loads of sticky rice. If you follow the instructions, you really can't screw up with this one. I did learn to set my microwave at 70-80% before cooking or the rice would boil over and leave a sticky mess in the microwave. Definately a must have for any kitchen that needs fast, healthy meals m/ a microwave.

Fast and Easy!4
I don't often write reviews, but I had to share my experience with this product. My husband first received this cooker while in college and I took over using it after we got married. It has survived almost ten years of regular use and an accidental placement on a hot stove burner! I love how easy it is to use as well as clean (in the dishwasher-yeay!). I've made rice as well as steamed vegetables. Never did try the pasta cooking option, but I'm sure it would work well too. I have had to deal with water boiling over the top, but will try the recommendation of another reviewer to reduce cooking power to 70-80%. (If you use the chicken/vegetable broth option, it doesn't boil over like with plain water.) I was recently looking at replacing ours with a more expensive model from Pampered Chef, but decided why mess with a sure thing!
