Amazon.com Review
Made of heavy cast aluminum with a nonstick surface inside and out, this multipurpose cooker with lift-and-drain basket simmers soups and stews, browns and roasts meats, boils corn on the cob and other vegetables, steams fish and rice, and deep fries shrimp and other foods. And in addition to its everyday versatility, the cooker can be washed in the dishwasher after simply removing the heat control. The glass lid is also dishwasher-safe. For safety, the cooker comes with a short 30-inch cord with a magnetic coupler that attaches to the heat control; if jostled, the cord detaches at the magnetized point to help prevent the kettle from being overturned. An easy-turn knob on the heat control adjusts the cooking temperature from warm to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Two large handles make the cooker easy to lift, and four sturdy legs keep the heat off the countertop. The cooker measures 9 inches in diameter and stands 7-1/2 inches tall. For best results, wash the pot before first use and season with cooking oil. Presto covers the cooker with a two-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

Multi-purpose gadget you'll actually use5
I was about to buy a "FryDaddy" small deep fryer at a retail store when the clerk at the checkout asked whether I'd looked at this item right next to it (she'd just bought one herself). I went back and swapped my FryDaddy for the Kitchen Kettle, with no regrets. This gives you deep-frying capability but also functions as a sort of non-crockery slow cooker. My first weekend, I deep-fried chicken wings on Friday night and then made a chicken-and-rice dish on Saturday, with fine results both times.

The heat does come from the bottom, I should note, not from the sides as in a true slow-cooker. Some may not like that. The instructions include recommendations for cleaning the non-stick bottom if it becomes discolored. The kettle is non-stick inside and out.

Best of all, unlike my older-model slow cooker, this one can be immersed (after you unplug the electrical unit).

Because of the danger posed by hot oil when you deep-fry, the unit has a magnetic breakaway cord. Tripping over or tugging the cord will simply separate it from the unit rather than tip the unit over. (Even so, be careful with kids around.)

All in all, seems to be a good buy -- a multi-tasker rather than a specialized item that will wind up in the yard sale.

Excellent Product with Many Uses5
This is a great product that heats up VERY fast, shows quality in design and the teflon seems to be thick rather than the paper thin coating on cheaper appliances. Only time will tell if it holds up but so far, no problem, even using the Whirley-pop popcorn maker top on it to avoid the aluminum pot that comes with the Whirley. It makes the best popcorn I have ever had with no burning and every kernal popped, set at 350... and it does it FAST. Here is my recipe: half cup premium popcorn, tablespoon of canola oil or peanut oil, 2 tablespoons of raw, unprocessed sugar or brown sugar, 1 teaspoon salt. Within minutes the lid starts to rise right off the pot. It is great for soups, deep frying, baking potatoes, etc. Great product that inspires creativity.

Great product for the money5
We were looking for a fry-daddy at the time of finding the Presto Kitchen Kettle Multi-Cooker. The salesperson recommended this instead of the fry daddy telling us we could use it for more than just a deep fryer. We bought it and absolutely love it. Being able to regulate the heat unlike the fry daddy makes this a universal cooker. We have made spaghetti, goulash, chicken, chicken and noodle soup, and it makes great popcorn. Also it makes a big pot of chili. We highly recommend this product.

Amazon.com Product Description
Make delicious fluffy rice every time with this 5-1/2-cup microcomputer-controlled rice cooker/warmer. Six menu settings allow for a variety of rice dishes and versatile cooking--steam, regular rice, brown rice, soup, cake baking, and slow cook. The appliance's preset timer can be set up to 13 hours in advance, while its keep-warm setting automatically switches on after cooking is complete to keep food warm for up to 12 hours. Other highlights include a nonstick-coated pan that prevents cooked rice from sticking, an automatic rewinding cord reel for convenient cord storage, and a space-saving design that frees up room on the countertop.

In addition, the cooker's dishwasher-safe, deep steaming basket can steam a large amount of food at one time. It attaches to the top of the pan so food doesn't come in contact with water, and because the basket is made of plastic, it won't scratch the rice-cooker's nonstick coating like a metal basket would. Along with the steaming basket, a measuring cup and rice scoop are also included. The rice cooker/warmer measures 9-2/3 by 9-4/5 by 9-3/5 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Beautiful and makes tasty rice5
Summary: Brown rice cooks reasonably quickly and turns out fluffier and tastier in this machine than in an on-off machine, polenta cooks smoothly, and everything is less messy. The rice cooker is also very attractive. The only disadvantages are that its timer will only cook 13 hours in advance, it will only keep rice warm for 12 hours before shutting off, and it could be a bit easier to clean.

Review:
I am allergic to wheat, so I eat rice every day at almost every meal and I use a rice cooker more often than any appliance in my kitchen. This rice cooker is the first computerized one that I've owned. I've owned three on-off rice cookers before: a cheap little Salton (which was actually quite nice), a 10 c Panasonic on-off with hinged lid, and an 8 c Aroma on-off from Target with hinged lid. The features that I'm noting are probably common to all computerized rice cookers versus on-off machines, but in this price range the on-off machines are probably the competition.

1. Rice tastes better: I had expected the rice would taste about the same and the only difference would be in the extra features, but in fact the rice that I've made in the rice cooker is much tastier and fluffier than the rice from my on-off cooker. I make brown rice almost exclusively, so use the brown rice setting. I think that the rice may be fluffier because the pot simmers the rice instead of coming to a furious boil, since I've noticed that the cooking is relatively gentle and quiet. Unlike my previous rice cooker, I can't hear it cooking.

2. The cooking is relatively quick in spite of the simmer. My mother's computerized rice cooker is a Sanyo, and it has by default a soaking cycle, and that makes it take perhaps an hour if you don't explicitly turn off that function.

3. Besides brown rice, I've made lentils, polenta, and apple sauce. The polenta used the soup/porridge function and turned out smooth and just thick enough, and the gentle cooking meant that there were no spatters to clean, unlike the on-off rice cooker. I made pretty decent applesauce on the slow cook function, but like all slow cooker applesauce it was pretty watery. I haven't tried to make a cake yet, but am really intrigued by that feature. I wish that the instruction book gave some of the Asian recipes for computerized rice cookers like rice porridge --- it took me awhile to figure out that the soup cycle (as opposed to slow cooker) is what's called the porridge cycle on rice cookers for the Asian market.

4. The timer function is handy, allowing you to start cooking 13 hours in advance of when you want the rice. I wish that it could be timed 18 or more hours or more in advance, so you could set it up in the evening for lunch the next day. An on-off rice cooker can be put on a timer which will activate it at a specific time; since this rice cooker is computerized, you can't do that and you're limited to the 13 hour timer.

5. Cleaning is pretty good, but could be easier: When you use any appliance daily over the course of years, cleaning becomes important. This rice cooker is somewhat easier to clean than my previous on-off Panasonic. When you open the lid of a domed rice cooker, there's usually a deep ridge around the entire edge that rice or starchy water would get caught in, creating a brownish scum after awhile --- here, there's hardly any ridge, so it's easy to get rice out if it happens to fall in, and it's easy to clean.

When rice cooks, extra starch or a brown/grey scum separates from the rice, especially if it's brown rice. All of the rice residue which comes up from the cooking gets directed to a round 2" diameter insert on the lid, rather than being splashed all over the top of the lid, as happened with the previous model. The previous model was not too difficult to clean because you would just remove an insert which covered the entire lid. This rice cooker is handy since all the residue just goes into this little insert, but the insert itself is difficult to clean: it comes apart into three pieces, and one of the pieces has little ridges which collect the goo. If you run it under water right after the rice cooks, most of the goo falls off of it. Otherwise you may need to resort to a toothpick. There seems to be much less of the scum than with my previous rice cooker, perhaps because it modulates the temperature and doesn't boil as furiously. For instance, lentils usually produce a lot of brown speckles, but here there was hardly any residue.

Update: I've made several cakes in the rice cooker on the "Cake" setting and they turned out fantastic, including gluten-free brownies from the Trader Joe's mix. Last week my oven broke (it would only broil), so I poured the 9" x 5" pan of wheat-free Gingerbread batter (1975 Joy of Cooking) into the rice cooker and held my breath. The gingerbread rose up really high and I was afraid it wasn't going to be cooked in the middle, but it did, and it held together and sliced beautifully and was moist without being too moist. I've also made rice pudding and oatmeal in the soup setting, following the recipes in the rice cooker cookbook.

Finally: when I was moving house, I decided to bring my rice cooker with me on the airplane. I carried it on as one of my carryons, holding onto the handle, and it passed through security without a problem. All four of the TSA people and two guys behind me in the security line were curious and asked me questions about it. Apparently people carry rice cookers onto planes as carry-on luggage all the time. Who knew?

The most Effective Multi-Purpose Cooker5
This is one of the best(less expensive) fuzzy logic cookers available in the market.

Pros:

(i) Possible to make the rice ready at any desired time(you can set timings up to 13hrs using slow cook option)
For instance if you want the rice to be hot and ready when you come from Office, this one will accomplish the task for you. You can set the timer for 8hrs and when you come back, hot rice will be awaiting for you. This a great feature.
(ii) Possible to cook both White rice, Brown rice. Brown rice doesn't get cooked well with regular rice cookers.
(iii) You can steam food at the same time of cooking rice. Remember in case of steaming food during cooking rice at bottom, maximum cooking capacity should be 3 cups.
(iv) It makes delicious soups for you.
(v) One nice additional lineament is, we can bake yummy cakes in less than an hour.
(vi) As said in the manual, time to cook white rice will be 30-40 minutes, which is slower than the regular rice cookers, but it overcomes with the variety of other options.
(vii) It has a nice scoop holder.
(viii) Rice will never stick to the pan, Panasonic comes with a great quality aluminum pan.
(ix) Retractable power cord which befits for both short and long distances.

But every product has other side too:
(i) The LCD Background is not colored one, barely you can see the timings.
(ii) You can change the cooking timing only in the Ascending order(1hr, 1.30hr, 2hr) not the other way around, similarly the menu option you can navigate in only one way.
(iii) Requires more maintenance than the ordinary cookers, since it's microprocessor based even a small dust will have an impact on performance.
(iv) Only offers 5.5 capacity doesn't suit for a big family

Tips:
(i) Always clean the Steam cup and Dew collector(water will get collected in it) after every use.
(ii) Never use a dish washing detergent to clean.
(iii) If a tiny object or rice stick to the sensor, polish it off using
sand paper and wipe with a damp cloth.
(iv) Don't place the cooker next to the faucet as many of us do.

Zojirushi also has the same type of Fuzzy logic cooker, but its expensive and doesn't have many options like the Panasonic!

Great Little Rice Cooker5
I bought this rice cooker for myself since I live in an apartment. I find the handiest feature to be the timer. The timer allows me to set the unit to cook rice at a later time and keep it warm so that it will be ready to eat when I get home from work. I also use the steamer tray simultaneously to cook fresh vegetables such as brussel sprouts, asparagus, broccolini, and red and yellow peppers.

Unfortunately after the vegetables are steamed they often look colorless and lifeless. They feel very soft and taste sweet though, so the rice cooker is doing it's job. Any colors from the vegetables will become ingrained into the plastic steamer basket so beware. My steamer basket is red now because I always put red bell peppers inside it.

Unit is easy to clean, although I wish it were simpler. It is necessary to remove the steamer cap and take it apart and wash it inside and out. It is also necessary to wipe the inside lid of the unit and drain the moisture catch.

I appreciate the way the unit tells you how much time is left before the rice is done. I just wish it could tell me how much time is left from the start of cooking (it only tells you when it is under 8 minutes until it's done).

This is my 1st and only rice cooker. I eat brown rice so I can't say this unit cooks brown rice better than others. I can say that the brown rice tends to stick to the bottom and that on occasion the rice feels like it gets a little burnt. Some of the rice grains near the bottom taste hard and crunchy after the unit is done cooking and they aren't supposed to have that kind of texture.

Easy to use, easy to program, although I haven't tried adjusting the cooking timer yet. I bought my unit from 99 Ranch for a few dollars less than the price Amazon is currently selling it for. I feel like I got a very good deal, especially when I see the ridiculous prices for other models. Cooking rice and veggies is so easy and convenient with this unit. If I have some leftover meat from the previous day, I'll place the meat inside the cooker after it is done and leave it in there for a few minutes to warm it up.

This rice cooker has a small footprint which is great because I have only a small space to work with. It is attractive and cute looking with it's small round balanced appearance.

**Update**

I have now owned this product for nearly 1 1/2 years. My steamer basket has not collected the colors of the vegetables to my delight. For some reason the colors stuck initially but after a year of use or so they came out. The unit is still working well and steams everything I throw into it.

The rice does not stick to the top filter (3 pieces) as the review above does. Not sure whether this is because I use brown rice or maybe it's the unit. No piece of food has gotten stuck to any of the inside parts as far as I can see. Everything is easy to clean up afterwards, just rinse it off and dry it.

Amazon.com Review
Pressure cookers have experienced renewed popularity over the last several years because cooks have rediscovered what some cooks (particularly grandmas) have known for a long time--they're really fast. And it's easy to cook healthfully with pressure cookers, since the food retains so much more of its nutrients and flavor. Presto's 6-quart aluminum pressure cooker is a multi-purpose pot that can stand in as a conventional soup pot as well as perform the kitchen magic that pressure cookers are famous for. Chicken Cacciatore cooks in 8 minutes! This durable, polished-aluminum pressure cooker is an economical addition to any well-rounded set of kitchen tools.

The heavy-duty lid locks down during cooking; an inner sealing ring keeps the steam in. In addition to a pop-up pressure indicator and a simple steam release mechanism, there is an overpressure plug that will let off steam if it builds up excessively. This pressure cooker is useful for weeknight dinners or for any meal that needs to come together quickly. An accompanying booklet contains more than 65 recipes, ranging from basic soup stocks to stews and pot roasts--even desserts like 5-minute custards! Tenderize lean cuts of beef or pork; or cook chicken, fish, or vegetables faster than you can in a microwave, and without losing moisture.

Nonabrasive cleansers are best for cleaning this polished aluminum pressure cooker, though occasional use of a fine metal polish will help the exterior keep its shine. The Presto 6-quart aluminum pressure cooker is fully immersible; in addition, the sealing ring should be removed after each use to allow cleaning of the inside rim of the lid. The vent pipe is simple to keep clean with a small brush or pipe cleaner, and both the air vent/cover lock and the overpressure plug are removable. The pressure cooker measures 9 inches in diameter (17 inches including handles) and 8-1/2 inches tall (including lid). Presto guarantees this pressure cooker with an extended 12-year warranty. A detailed instruction and recipe booklet is included; special safety issues that pertain to pressure cookers are clearly explained. --Garland Withers

No-Problem Cooker4
I have been using this cooker for over a year now, my recent purchase being a second and repeat purchase. It is actually a no-problem cooker and requires no attention at all. Except the lower handle, whose screw could become lose after few months and keeps demanding some action with the screw driver, the cooker is virtually trouble free. For the money I paid, it is a great purchase. As you would see, I have bought a second one.

Excellent for price5
Terrific product, does what it claims.. value for money.
Note: Would recommend pushing in the lid ON, AFTER your stuff starts to boil, especially if you want the water-level to go down slightly. Otherwise, loss of water is very low. It's now almost over a year now, use daily, but NO ISSUES whatsoever - in fact gasket is as good as new and the amazing thing is the body still SHINES!!

Great Pressure Cooker!5
I've used many pressure cookers and this one is the most reliable one!
Sturdy, easy to clean and cooks everything quickly & evenly.

This 6-quart is a wonderful size when preparing meals for 3-5 people.

TASTY FOOD GREAT CROCKPOT5
Just bought this crockpot this weekend or actually on Black Friday 2003, it was inexpensive and it is a great way for me to learn how to cook for one instead of making large meals and having to freeze a ton of food.

A great crock pot if you are cramped on space i.e. apartment, studio, small townhouse, cape cod living. Doesn't take up much room and can fit a decent size portions of food in the crock pot.

Makes flavorful food...delicious....the toughest of cuts turn out perfection!

Best Crock Pot5
I have this Crock Pot but my crock insert is white instead of black. I bought this slow cooker probably in the late 1990s. I own three slow cookers (the Rival 3-1/2-quart oval and the Rival 6-quart), and this is the best one and the one I use the most. It is 2-1/2 quarts and is perfect for two people. It cooks the best out of all three of my slow cookers as it does not overcook the food as the other two will. I find that the cooking times listed in most slow cooker cookbooks are very accurate for this Crock Pot, but for my other two larger models, I must reduce the cooking time. I have never had overcooked food in this slow cooker. Everything has always cooked to perfection. Most recipes in slow cooker cookbooks are written for 6 to 8 servings. If I cut the recipes in half, they will fit perfectly in this Crock Pot and fill it 3/4 full. That is just enough food for my husband and me and will usually leave leftovers for one or two more meals for one person. This slow cooker also looks very nice as it is all white and matches my kitchen, so it is always out on the counter. I use it many times a week and I am very happy with it. Since it cooks at such a low temperature, whenever I cook meat, I use the high setting for the first hour and then reduce it to low and cook for one hour less than the stated recipe (since one hour on high is equal to two hours on low). Everything turns out perfectly this way. The potatoes and carrots are perfectly tender and have not cooked down to mush as has happened in my larger, more powerful Crock Pots.

I highly recommend this model if the size is big enough for you because it works the way slow cookers are supposed to work - cooking the food slowly and gently.

Absolute Wonder!5
I had one of these for over 10 years and it never gave me a day's trouble. The only reason I purchased a new one was that the old model did not have a removable crock. Fantastic addition to the small family's kitchen.

Excellent Rice Cooker5
Purchased this rice cooker for my wife. We are both enjoying it a lot. The parts are solid and simply feel like high quality. There are two bowls. The rice cooking bowl has a better non-stick coating on it. The other bowl for non-rice cooking is easy enough to clean, but might take a little soaking for those challenging situations.

Selection is easy to understand. The slow-cook options are partially what sold me on this unit. You can cook so many things in this cooker, because you can manually cook instead of always having to follow a programmed option.

Rice can be kept warm up to 12 hours. It has a great sealing system, so it does stay fresh.

The unit looks very nice on the counter. The battery runs the clock, unless you keep the unit plugged into the outlet. The battery is suppose to run for 4 years or so.

Quality of rice cooked -- The rice has been PERFECT every time we have cooked rice. We are using a Jasmine rice bought from a local asian market. We simply wash the rice twice, put in the required amount of water, and set it to cook. So far it has been perfect each time.

I ended up buying this over the Zojirushi based on price and couldn't be happier. I saved maybe a $100 and am 100% happy with the product. We've been using this for 3 weeks now.

Cleaning is easy and fast. The removable lid/seal is great and easy to clean. It is not possible to latch the cover if the removable cover is not in place -- a nice feature and great engineering.

The steam collector works well. Be careful not to put your hand close to the exit hole as steam is not fully condensed coming out and could burn you. This is not really a safety concern for me and my wife. Cleaning the collector is not a problem so far. Simply remove and shake out the water. Any water dripping down is caught in a silicon seal. You can easily take a towl and soak up the very small amount of water that might drip out. It is only water and doesn't mess anything up.

I would buy this over again based on my experience so far. Can't speak about reliability yet. I can only hope Sanyo brand will be good. I don't usually buy their products.

Excellent Rice and Slow Cooker5
Spent way too much time researching the various brands and finally decided on the Sanyo due to the slow cooking option. The first day I tried simple Jasmine rice and it came out perfect. Next Day tried Botan ( Medium Grain) rice and once again it was cooked just like a resturant. Decided to try a simple slow cook chicken stew recipe from the internet, came out good and the slow cook function worked very well. Granted it's only been a week since I've had it but I have to highly recommend it due to it's versitility. Some of the feature that stand out for me are;

1. 12 hour clock ( not 24 hour like some brands)
2. Contacted Sanyo about changing Battery (clock) and it can be changed by the user without shipping to Sanyo. ( does take a little common sense though)
3. Comes with two pans, one for Rice, other for slow cook along with a steaming tray and tofu tray.
4. EASY TO USE!
5. Makes great rice! I don't think I needed to spend more money for better taste.
6. Looks to be built well. For those who are wondering, it's manufactured in China.

I'm very happy with this cooker!

Love this rice cooker5
This cooker replaced the National fuzzy logic that I had used at least 3-4 times a week for 5 years. With all the new rice cookers on the market it was hard to find one that had the features that I wanted, without a bunch that I didn't need. I really don't need to bake a cake in my rice cooker!! What I use the most are the slow cooker options and the rice options. I mostly make short grain brown rice and this model cooks it much faster than my old National. I also loved that this cooker came with an extra pan and lid for the slow cooker...which makes it a great value.

If it is important for you to know the length of the cook cycles, I suggest that you time them the first time you use them because the instruction booklet does not give the times for the cycles. My old National would show the length of the cycle when you started each cycle, i.e. when using the regular cycle it would show 43 minutes on the clock. This cooker only shows the time left when it gets down around 15 minutes. The brown rice cycle cooks in 75 minutes. I cooked quinoa on the quick cycle the other day and it was done in approximately 30 minutes.

Another option I like on this model compared to the National is that, so far, the lid is easier to clean. The national used to bubble up through the steam vent and make a mess that was not easy to clean from the rubber gasket, but the Sanyo doesn't do that and the lid barely needs to be washed after cooking a batch of rice. I wish these types of cookers would make removable upper lids so that they could be kept cleaner.

I also love that this model has the slow cooker and that there is both high and low slow cook cycles.

This cooker is just right for a small family or couple, but if you generally cook for more than 3 people, I would recommend the larger model. I can make enough soup for 4 people if bread and salad were served, but it may only serve several people if they had large appetites. It definitely does not have enough room in the slow cooker to do large roasts.

Great value, great cooker, I highly recommend it.

Presto's 8-quart pressure cooker is a multi-purpose pot that can stand in as a conventional soup pot as well as perform the kitchen magic that pressure cookers are famous for. Chicken Cacciatore cooks in 8 minutes! And it's big enough for home canning, too. (The USDA recommends pressure canning as the only safe method for low-acid foods such as vegetables, meats, and poultry.) This professional-quality stainless steel pressure cooker is a handy addition to any well-rounded set of kitchen tools.

An accompanying booklet contains 75 recipes, ranging from basic soup stocks to stews and pot roasts--even desserts like Petite Pumpkin Custards! Tenderize lean cuts of beef or pork; or cook chicken, fish, or vegetables faster than you can in a microwave, and without losing moisture.

Nonabrasive cleansers are best for cleaning this stainless steel pressure cooker, though occasional use of a fine metal polish will help the exterior keep its shine. The Presto 8-quart pressure cooker is fully immersible; in addition, the sealing ring should be removed after each use to allow cleaning of the inside rim of the lid. The vent pipe is simple to keep clean with a small brush or pipe cleaner, and both the air vent/cover lock and the overpressure plug are removable. The pressure cooker measures 10-1/2 inches in diameter (15-1/2 inches including handles) and 8-1/2 inches tall (including lid). Presto guarantees this pressure cooker with an extended 12-year warranty. A detailed instruction and recipe booklet is included; special safety issues that pertain to pressure cookers are clearly explained. --Garland Withers

Quality Basic Pressure Cooker5
This is a solid, basic stainless pressure cooker, that is quite a bargain at the $41.45 price (or $33 something after the $25 off $125 kitchen purchases).

Advantages:

* Easy to use flip pressure regulator for quick release of pressure
* Only has 15 lbs pressure that is adequate for normal pressure cooking
* Has handles on both sides that makes the cooker easy to carry and stable when full.
* Stainless won't interact with food product such as tomatoes.
* 8 qt. capacity gives 4 qts of capacity when cooking foaming products such as beans or lentils.
* Easier to clean than some pressure cookers I have used.

Disadvantages:

* Only cooks at 15 lbs of pressure, where some recipes call for only 10 lbs and would have to be adjusted.
* Most canning is done at 10 lbs pressure at sealevel and up to 1000 ft elevation
* I respectfully disagree that this cooker is meant for canning. It could process 3 or 4 pints in a pinch, but a 23 qt pressure cooker is the canning workhorse and will hold 19 pts or 7 qts. The manual suggests not canning in it, and it doesn't have a canning trivet included.
* It is much lighter weight than older Presto models, so I don't know if it will last as long as the old ones did.

Overall, it is a great pressure cooker for most cooking, and is a very good value.

Great value for the money!5
I bought this for canning and found it more than worth the money. I never expected to use it for cooking but it came with great recipes so I tried it. Makes wondrous custards and delectable roasts as well. Forget the more expensive models - this one does a fabulous job of canning and spare parts are readily available (I blew out a pressure indicator - my fault). Highly recommend

It's a pressure cooker!5
Not sure what to say here... it's a pressure cooker.
Seriously it does what it's supposed to do.
It's the perfect size for my needs, it holds 4 - 1-pint jars without any problems, easy to close, easy to clean afterwards, that's about it.

I guess the key here is that should it break somewhere beyond it's 12 year guarantee I would buy another one exactly like it.

Bayou Classic SP10 works like a champ!5
The Bayou Classic cut about 45 minutes to an hour off of my brew time. Got three gallons of water to a boil in less than half the time of my kitchen range, and held a good strong boil for an hour. If you're a homebrewer looking to leave the stovetop, and go to an outdoor propane cooker, this is the one to buy.

Works great - Lots of heat!5
This burner puts out a lot of BTUs but it's also pretty noisy. I use it with a 9 gallon pot and it gets boiling quick. Served my purposes (beer brewing) perfectly!

Works Great, Awesome bargain w/ the super saver shipping 4
I used the SP10 for the first time last weekend. It was about 50 degrees out and I got a 8 gal. keg of cold tap water up to a boil in about 30 minutes; very impressed. I was a bit disappointed with the fact that because i was using such a large vessel (a bit wider than the unit itself) much of the escaping heat burned a lot of the black paint on the unit and emmited a not too pleasant smell for some time. I guess this is inevitable, and they probably just paint them for astetic reasons, but this is a hot flame! I also bought an extra burner (model BG10) for about $10 and a 20psi regulator kit, so if you had an extra stand or could improvise, that would be another way to go to get the same quality heat.
Cheers!

Loved it, for a while3
I bought this cooker seven months ago, and really liked it. It's quite handsome, and I have no complaints about how it works. I've made many fine meals in it. Sadly, the knob broke a few weeks or a month ago. I glued it back together, but today it broke apart again. I don't think it will take a second gluing any better than the first, so now if I want to use it I have to use pliers or something, and I have to count clicks--which are not as distinct as I'd like--to know quite which setting it's on.

Such a shame this otherwise great cooker is now incredibly difficult to use because of such a "small" detail!

This was my first full size slow cooker (I have a 1.5 qt one too) and I've learned a couple of things I'll share for people looking for their first. The 4 quart size has been really good. I first bought it when I was living alone, so I'd have lots of leftovers, which I love. Now I live with my boyfriend, and the size is still good--we usually have enough left over for one or both of us to have lunch of it the next day. The oval shape has worked out well also; it's possible to fit larger things in it than I'd be able to in a round cooker of the same volume.

My next one, though, will be programmable. I'd thought the feature was silly, because you can only go from high to warm or low to warm, not high to low, or high to low to warm. Now that I have some experience using it, I see that the ability to switch to warm automatically at a certain time would be immensely useful, for those times when a recipe calls for 6 hours on low, but you'll be away from home for 8 hours.

Good luck choosing one!

I like it a lot!5
Like most other slow cookers the high setting is burn setting if you have SLOW cooking in mind. The high setting is good for bringing the contents up to temp fast, just don't leave it there much over one hour! For $20 I thought this crock might look and feel cheap. It does NOT. I was surprised that it had a glass lid! We've only used it a few times, but so far it has far exceeded our expectations!

Excellent Product5
This is an excellent pressure cooker. I also have the 8-quart stainless steel model by Presto and I don't like that one as much as this one. I like the little rocker on top better because I know exactly how much pressure it has. It is super easy to carry this extremely lightweight pressure cooker to the sink, run water over it, and in 5-10 seconds the pressure is down! It is not heavy or hot. You just have to be careful when you do this. I actually prefer this method of quick cooling to the method used in the 8-quart, which is to open the little weight and let the steam shoot out the top. That method takes about a minute, plus there's steam all over the place. That seems more dangerous to me than going to the sink.

This model is a smaller version of the 6-quart, so if you think this one is too small, that one would work for a family. This size is just right for one or two people. I always make very small quantities of food in it anyway as I don't like to have a lot of leftovers.

Cleanup with this product is very fast and easy as it is so lightweight. Another nice thing is that replacement parts are very easy to obtain (rubber gasket and overpressure plug).

I highly recommend this pressure cooker and the 6-quart stainless steel model as well.

Heavy duty, love this pressure cooker5
I own three pressure cookers, I reach for this one the most. I use the bowl within the pot method to cook brown rice (I am too lazy to clean, this allows storage of the rice directly into the fridge.) After cooking brown rice in a pressure cooker, don't know how people have the time to wait around for a rice cooker. I like the audible rocking noise it makes, this way I know pressure is being maintained when I cook. I make mostly beans and brown rice, I cook for one and the bowl method allows me to have rice all week (using the 4qt Presto) I like this one best out of all three, because it seems not to clog like the others.

Comes without steaming basket!4
This cooker comes with a canning rack that stands 3/8" from the bottom of the pot. The stainless steamer baskets have to be ordered separately from Presto (for a fair price) though its an inconvience if you had planned to steam food; you could "part boil" it for now. You can also order from the accessory list that comes with it; a video, cookbbook, additional steamer baskets for multiple meal cooking, glass lid to use it as a pot, and a couple of other items. I purchased this cooker because it is made of stainless to avoid food contamination from aluminum, but the bottom of the pot (outside, underneatth)is aluminum clad and its exposed. I gave it four stars because it does not come with a steamer basket and the exposed aluminum on the underside; which doesn't present a problem if you don't scrub it and contaminate your dish rag and dish water.

Rival Rice Cooker-Screw Bell's and Whistles!5
Several hours of my life were wasted pondering what rice cooker to purchase. There are dozen options available and I too was originally getting sucked into the though larger price tag =better rice, how wrong I was. Simple, easy to use, affordable and perfect brown rice on the first try (no easy task). Save your money for Vegas, this is all you need.

Nice for the Price4
I just got this today and made my first batch of rice. I think the cooker did a pretty good job. However, if you don't stir it towards the end of the cooking time or when most of the water has evaporated, the rice will brown on the bottom. So it's not a set it and forget it operation. But I like the cooker since I can saute onions and garlic in the bowl before adding the rice. I made a modified version of the chicken and spinach risotto recipe that comes with the cooker, and it turned out really good. I used regular long grain rice, a handful of frozen cut spinach, and added steamed shrimp which I steamed in the basket while the rice was cooking. The cooker automatically switches to warm once the water has evaporated but more water can be added and the cycle restarted if necessary. I think I will find this very useful for making quick one pot meals.

To help keep the starch from bubbling up and spraying out of the vent hole, rinse the rice thoroughly and drain. Heat a small amount of olive oil in the rice bowl, once the oil is heated, carefully add the rice and saute it for 3 to 4 minutes. Add the water and continue cooking. Rinsing alone will not prevent the starch from accumulating. I'm not a food scientist and I can't offer a scientific explanation, but something happens to the starch when the rice is sauteed or lightly toasted before steaming and it won't bubble up and out of the vent hole. For a change of pace, I saute onions and garlic in the bowl first and then just put the rice in and saute it along with the other ingredients before adding the water. To jazz it up a bit, I may add a pinch or two of turmeric (to make the rice yellow) to the water and a handful of peas. The possibilities are endless with this little cooker.

My first rice cooker...I love it5
I have eyed rice cookers for years but have bought one because I did not want to find a place to store it in the kitchen. When I saw this little red one Target, I picked it up on a whim. I love it!. I've had it for a few months and probably use it at least 3 times a week. My favorite is to make Trader Joe's Brown Rice Medley with vegtable or chicken broth and then steam some vegtables and salmon or fish the last 10 minutes or so. Season differently every time. Makes enough for dinner for 2 and at least one lunch for work the next day. Nothing special but always hits the spot, is easy and requires no thought or planning-- a good default meal. This cooker is easy clean-up, no mess, can't over-cook. I'm anxious to try new recipes.

Good rice cooker if you know the trick5
I bought this rice cooker 2 months ago.(after having a problem with my old nonstick rice cooker) The reason I chose this one because I don't like Taflon nonstick surface. It'd come off no matter how you took good care of it. So far, I'm very pleased with it.

I'm an Asain who eat rice everyday. I cooked as little as 2 cup or as much as 5 cup (full capacity). I never had any experience about rice stick in the bottom of the pot. However, you have to know the trick. Every time you cook rice, you have to let it stand in the pot for at least 10 to 15 minutes (after the cook button change to warm button) before taking rice out of the pot, as a result, rice will never stick. And for this price ($26.99), it's very worth my money for having perfect rice in every meal. Clean up is very easy, just soak the inner pot for several minutes before cleaning.

Good Little Rice Cooker4
Size is perfect for 2 to 4 people, and cooks rice very nicely. And its true what another reviewer said - let the rice rest for 10 mins after cooking and it wont stick. I prefer to unplug it and not have the warm feature. I have cooked white and brown with this rice cooker and have obtained good results. Just be sure to adjust amount of water depending on the type of rice you are cooking.

Cleaning is easy. Couple of ergonomic things I dont like: the handles are really dinky, and the cooking pot has a very shallow lip (unlike my old 20-year National which this replaced). Also power cord is permanently attached which can be awkward for storing.
All in all, price is right!

you get what you pay for4
Its cheap... You want to cook rice... it will cook rice... how complicated can that get?
But dont expect perfection...
The rice sticks to the bottom especially if you leave it in there for too long after its cooked. But its not the hardest thing in the world to clean it... just leave some warm water in the vessel for a while and the rice that was stuck to the bottom comes right off...
The bottom line is that it does the job... and thats what I was looking for.

Great basic rice cooker5
This is a really great, basic rice cooker. It doesn't have the bells and whistles of the more expensive rice cookers (no warming feature, no different settings, etc.), but it works well for cooking rice, it's compact, and reasonably priced. Prior to buying this one, we had another basic model made by another company that broke. We replaced with an identical one, and it broke as well. After going through two rice cookers, we decided to pay $5 more to get a different brand- this Panasonic. We have had no problems with it, and we also like the non-stick pot. With our old rice cooker, the rice would stick to the bottom of the pot, so we couldn't eat all of it. The Panasonic doesn't have this problem, so we can make smaller quantities of rice without wasting most of it. I have made white rice, brown rice, and quinoa in the rice cooker, and all have turned out well.

works great5
Fast easy no fuss way to make rice in a snap. The directions are a little Engrish-y. But in a nutshell:

Scoop out your desired rice amount say 2 cups(using the enclosed scoop).
Rinse the rice a few times in a strainer to get some of the starch out--help it from making a bubbly mess and I find it makes better sticky rice.
1.Dump rice in cooker.
2.Add water to the proper line. Two cups of rice means you add water up to the fill line 2. And yes you put in the water after the rice is already in there.
3.Turn on, wait 15 minutes for the cooker to shut off and let the rice sit unmolested for 15 minutes before eating. = perfect rice.

The directions also recommend soaking the rice for 30 minutes before turning the cooker on, i never do and the rice turns out perfect...let the steam do the work and don't stir or take the lid off while cooking.

Super easy clean up since the unit is non-stick. Can't ask for more at the price i love mine.

Update: It's June 2008 and mine is still working great. I now don't even bother to rinse the rice first and I've never had my cooker bubble over. For making brown rice, I add a little more water than normal, say 1/4 cup.

Great For South Beach5
Great small, basic rice cooker. Our old rice cooker had a 3 cup minimum which was overkill for a family of 3, especially when we started eating fewer carbs. This cooker makes 1-2 cups with no fuss.

Fantastic Cooker!!5
I purchased this to replace five slow cookers (Yes, I really had five), a rice cooker, and a Nesco roaster. When it arrived, I ran a water test which worked perfectly. The cooker heats quickly and then cooks on pressure and beeps when done. If not turned off, it goes to a warm cycle to hold the dish until you are ready. The next dish I tried was rice on the rice cycle. It is set for white rice and I was cooking brown rice so I just repeated the cycle twice after the first cycle. The rice turned out perfectly in 18 minutes. The removable pan is easy to clean since it is Teflon. I then put in the ingredients for black beans and set the timer for 27 minutes on the high pressure cycle. I punched start and walked away. The beans were done, tender and delicious! It used to take me 12 hours to cook beans in the crock pot! There is a brown cycle which heats up fast and can be used for sauteing items. I made a Mexican chicken soup and sauteed the onions and celery, threw in cubed raw chicken breast and browned, then added the rest of the ingredients for the soup except for the avocado which I added after the soup was done and cooked it on high pressure for 8 minutes. It sure didn't take me long to cook lunch that day! There is also a low pressure cycle for vegetables which I haven't tried yet. I can see that I am going to get lots of use out of this cooker. I think it is wonderful!

Excellent Cooker5
I love the fact this unit is multi-function. I've wanted both a rice cooker and electronic pressure cooker. I am thrilled with the prospect of a combination unit to save storage space. This cooker is sleek looking, quiet when in use, and a breeze to clean with its internal nonstick surface. To be honest, I own a new-generation pressure cooker which I've never used because I am too terrified to use it. I know it's ridiculous, but I just can't bring myself to use it for fear of the old days when lids could blow off if the cook wasn't careful. I wanted an electronic pressure cooker because I felt safer (stupid but true). I have used my new fagor in pressure cooker mode to make Risotto, which requires use of the browning function. The rice/onion mixture browned nicely and the risotto turned out marvelously. I also wasn't scared when using the pressure feature. I do wish this unit was bigger (8 or 10 quarts) as I cook in quantity. I will certainly be using this item over and over again, especially in pressure mode. I can't wait to make succulently tender meat in pressure cooker mode, or use the rice feature for sushi rice. The possibilities with this unit are endless. To add on because of other customer comments, yes the PSI is lower than the "traditional" pressure cookers. But I now have used this product in pressure cooker mode several times. There are two pressure cooker modes (low and high) and I've always used the unit in high mode and have NOT had to increase cooking time due to the PSI differences. As a matter of fact, last night I made stew beef in an italian red sauce (for macaroni and beef): the original recipe is for a pressure cooker, but I didn't have that cook time, as it's a recipe that's been handed down and was given to me as a "simmer on the stove for 3-4 hours." I looked all over the internet for an approximated time (20 minutes) so I added five minutes and there was slight burning at the bottom of my pot because I did add those extra five minutes. I have even cooked a pot roast in pressure cooker high mode with this unit (on a trivet to prevent burning) and cooked according to traditional cook times, NO adjustments and it came out perfect !!

great piece of equipment for any kitchen4
I've been using my Fagor 3-in-1 multi-cooker for a few months now and have really enjoyed it. I've tried all 3 functions. For the rice cooker function, I like it but the rice comes out a little stickier than we're used to. I've tried cutting back on the amount of water and that seems to help. But I typically just use my old rice cooker because the multi-cooker is already in use making the main dish. For the slow cooker function, it seems to cook at a slightly lower temperature than even the low setting on regular slow cookers. The food gets done, but meats aren't as "falling apart" as they are in my old slow cooker. But maybe that's a good thing since they're not overcooked. Depending on what I'm making, sometimes I use the multi-cooker and sometimes I use my old one. The multi-cooker is 6 qts, but is taller and has a smaller diameter than most slow cookers. So it wouldn't work well for a big flat piece of meat like a brisket. Also, the multi-cooker is teflon coated, so if I'm making something that I will need to use my immersion blender on, I use my old slow cooker with the corning-ware insert. Another small problem with the multi-cooker is that even though the insert is removable, it's not very good for putting the ingredients in the night before and putting in the fridge until you're ready to cook. There's no handles to grab it by and there's no lid just for the insert. Because there are no handles, it's also very difficult, and dangerous, to lift it out after cooking to pour the food into a serving dish. The function I was most nervous about was the pressure cooker. I had never had a pressure cooker before and had visions of horror remembering my mother's and grandmother's disasters. But honestly, once I learned to trust the multi-cooker, it's been great. I didn't know how long it would take to reach pressure, so I would get nervous that it wasn't closed right. But it was fine. You just need to add about 20 minutes to your estimated prep time for it to get up to pressure and start cooking. I was concerned about the 9 psi pressure after reading the other reviews here. I sent an e-mail to Fagor customer service and they actually sent me a page from Miss Vickie's web site that said you need to increase the cooking time by 40% and that you shouldn't use anything less than a 15 psi cooker. I couldn't believe they would send me something that says not to use their product! But it was all the customer service people could offer. Well, it turns out Miss Vickie's web site is wrong. You don't need to increase the cooking time at all, or just a minute or two if it's a long-cooking recipe. The problem is that Miss Vickie based her calculation on the ratio of the pressures (9 being 40% less than 15). But pressure isn't doing the cooking, temperature is. And the ratio of the temperatures is less than 10%. And if you use absolute temperature (according to my engineer husband) the ratio is even less, about 1%. So for a recipe that cooks 10 minutes you would increase it by a few seconds. So now I just use the recommended times in recipes and everything has come out perfectly cooked. I should add that this multi-cooker does not come with a steamer insert, and many pressure cooker recipes, especially for vegetables, require one. It doesn't even seem that Fagor offers one separately. I really like the browning function. It gets very hot and is useful not only for browning ingredients at the beginning but also for getting things boiling at the end of slow cooking so that you can add thickeners like cornstarch or roux. The warming function is nice, too. I've used the cook delay once or twice, but only for an hour or two. Longer would be risky for bacterial growth. So I really like this appliance. I don't think I'll be getting rid of my rice cooker or slow cookers, but they've moved to the basement and the Fagor 3-in-1 multi-cooker has the prize spot on the kitchen counter.

Presto's 6-quart stainless steel pressure cooker is a multi-purpose pot that can stand in as a conventional soup pot as well as perform the kitchen magic that pressure cookers are famous for. Chicken Cacciatore cooks in 8 minutes! This professional-quality stainless steel pressure cooker is a handy addition to any well-rounded set of kitchen tools.

Nonabrasive cleansers are best for cleaning this stainless steel pressure cooker, though occasional use of a fine metal polish will help the exterior keep its shine. The Presto 6-quart pressure cooker is fully immersible; in addition, the sealing ring should be removed after each use to allow cleaning of the inside rim of the lid. --Garland Withers

good5
This is nothing fancy, but it works wery well. Replacemenat parts are easy to buy. You can't open it if it's under pressure because it has a lock by the handle (safety feature). Actually I think it's very safe as it has other features as well.
I think one of the most important things to look for is what it's made of (after safety of course!). This is stainless steel which is good because you don't want aluminum (aluminum will stain and get eaten away with acidic food such as vinegar or lemon juice...).
Another thing to consider is that it takes time to heat up and cool down so even though all pressure cookers say it takes a lot less time to cook, they don't take the heat-up cool-down time into consideration, even though they are correct about the actual cooking time.

Good pressure cooker.

EDIT

In 2007, I bought a Kuhn-Rikon pressure cooker and I'm even more pleased with that.
It's quite a bit more expensive (4-7 times?) but a *lot* quieter as it relies on an internal spring to maintain pressure as opposed to gravity for the Presto. The Kuhn-Rikon also allows less water to escape. I keep both of them but I haven't used the presto for 4 months now. Considering I bought the Presto in 1999, it's amazing that it works perfectly even though it got heavy use. I even put the rubber seal and the lid in the dishwasher every time and it still held up. It's my backup cooker now as I can't let go of something that still works fine.

great value, sturdy cooker5
I bought this cooker 6 months ago from amazon for $35, and frankly, although the reviews I read on this product all said that it's great, I was very skeptical about the $35 price tag and was not expecting much. On top of that, both my mother and my mother-in-law warned me that cheap pressure cookers are dangerous, and I *must* buy something more expensive for safety reasons. I am just very glad that they were both wrong!

This is definitely one of the best purchases I have made on amazon. I still cannot believe they sell this for $35! The pot does not feel cheap at all. It has very sturdy handles, and a thick, heavy bottom, which holds in heat well. I like this pan so much that sometimes I use it instead of my skillet to sautee meat, because of the deeper pot + the cover, less cleaning up for me :-)

I love making soup and stock, but it usually takes up so much of my time when the stock is simmering. With this pressure cooker, I can make a meat-fall-off-the-bone soup in an hour!

Some might find this pot to be a little on the small side, but this pot works great for my wife and I. Although we have guests over regularly, I find the capacity of the pot to be very good. I would guess that this pot would work well for up to a 4-person family.

Pros:
=====
- Cheap, at $35, it's hard to beat
- Sturdy, I was afraid that the plastic handles would break easily, but they are in fact quite strong
- Stainless steel makes it great for browning meat pieces for stew or stock, and it heats up fast and holds heat well.
- Safe, you cannot open it when it's pressurized.
- Dish washer safe, though I prefer to wash it by hand.

Cons:
=====
- The handle can be tricky to hold with one hand. My hands are small, and when you've closed the top, the handle is kind of big. Luckily, I don't need to do this very often, and when I need to move it around, I just use both handles.
- The top cap can be tricky to clean. I usually soak it in hot soapy water, and then clean it thoroughly with Q-tip.

Watch outs:
===========
- The handle curves in a way that it catches any dripping liquid, I've hurt myself once when I wasn't careful at opening the cover.
- Do *NOT* remove the cap while it's blowing! The steam from inside is extremely hot and as soon as you remove the cap, the hot steam will shoot up faster than you can move your hand(s) away.

Tips:
=====
- I keep some water bottles in my freezer, and when I need to cool this off in a hurry, I can make a bath of cold water in my sink, put the hot pot inside, and throw the froze water bottles in. This usually cools it down very fast, great when I want to refrigerate it overnight to skim off the fat, and didn't want to wait too long for it to cool down.

price is right, does the job.4
This is a no-frills pressure cooker. It could be a little bigger, but it does the job very well.

When 'boiling' food in a traditional pot, the food cannot exceed 212 degrees F (the temperature at which water boils). Under pressure, the boiling point rises... in this pressure cooker to about 250 degrees F. This means, of course, that food cooks faster (the reason people normally think to buy a pressure cooker), but the higher temperature also allows other 'reactions' to take place while cooking... For instance, the tougher fibers in meat will convert to gelatin, making the meat more tender. As a result, pressure cookers are great for braised dishes with tough meats, such as chili. For these purposes, this pressure cooker rocks.

Larger pressure cookers can also be used for canning (because the higher temperatures can kill more bad things. This pressure cooker really is not large enough for this task. If you are not a canner though, compare the prices of this against those larger models... I think you will be back looking at this one.
